Trauma at Home

A poem

Photo by Kyle Johnson on Unsplash

Home is safety,

but safety is not guaranteed.

The trauma hidden by the lullabies of laughter,

a concoction to make them forget

the nights that hide the horror,

the whimpers in the shadows,

the screams of a lost someone.

Yet the people look up and still say:

the day will rise

and so will we.
